Summer Abroad Programs

Spend the summer abroad at one of our international partner institutions and take part in one of their exciting programs. Experience another culture through academic courses, cultural excursions and activities.

These short-term, international programs are an excellent way to enrich your academic live and get to know a different culture. Here is how it works:

Research, Preparation & Application

  • Please review each summer abroad opportunity (scroll down for list) for program details, fees, application requirements and deadlines and decide on what exciting opportunity you would like be part of. Some of our partner institutions offer tuition deductions or even free tuition to some of our students. Only in case you would like to be nominated for one of the complimentary/ reduced tuition spots, please prepare a letter of motivation and upload it in the Expression of Interest form.
  • Fill out the Summer Abroad - Expression of Interest form by February 15. RRU's Education Abroad Advisor will connect with you once you have submitted your information.
  • Depending on the summer abroad program, you may be eligible to receive transfer credits if pre-approved by your program head. Gather the program information (including course descriptions) and make an appointment with your program head for review and pre-approval.
  • Request a letter of permission to study at another University while being registered at RRU through your MyAdmin Account. The letter needs to be approved and processed by your program area.
  • Prepare your application documents as required and submit them to the partner institution. Contact us if you need assistance with the application process.

Upon Acceptance to the Program

Congratulations on your acceptance! Just a few more things before you take off on your summer abroad adventure:

Visa requirements

Review the visa requirements of your destination country by checking the country’s embassy website. Depending on your country of citizenship, you may have to travel to Vancouver or another city to obtain a visa. Make sure your passport is up to date!

Travel and Health Insurance

Make sure you have adequate travel and health insurance for your time abroad!

Welcome back! You are now officially a Study Abroad alumni. Make the most of your experience and become an RRU Go Global Ambassador to inspire other students and make an impact in their lives. If your program head pre-approved any transfer credits for the program you attended, make sure you receive an official transcript from the partner institution and submit the sealed envelope to the Registrar’s Office to receive the transfer credit as discussed.

South Korea

Under the theme “Humanity, Civilization, and Global Governance,” the Global Collaborative Summer Program seeks to promote a better understanding of the East Asian region and the world, in tandem with the current quests for “world peace” and “global common good.” It also aims to provide a new paradigm of higher education for the emerging global agenda by consciously integrating education, research and global service. Through high-quality research and education on Humanity, Civilization, and Global Governance, we hope this program will present an opportunity for students around the world to share ideas and views with each other and to reflect on their emerging roles in the global community.

Dates: June 29 - July 26, 2018

Tuition Fee: 1100000 KRW (about $1300 CAN)

Sookmyung Summer Program allows students to take part in an exciting Korean college life with motivated and brilliant women. There are also opportunities to experience traditional cultures within and off campus. World renowned Korean embroider, Jung Young Yang, has granted her collection to Sookmyung where her works are opened to public.

Sookmyung University’s Summer Program is a golden opportunity to spend your summer meaningfully by participating in a digitalized, knowledge managed and culture oriented program.
Dates for 2018 - 2 sessions ( 3 weeks in July or 3 weeks in August)

South Korea

Seoul International Summer School (SISS) 2018

SISS is an international exchange program inviting students from universities worldwide. The program provides a great opportunity to experience Asia in Korea. SISS offers courses ranging from Korean Language and Korean Studies to International Studies, Business & Economics, and Urban Studies. The program also includes visits and excursions to Korea’s famous attractions. In addition, SISS organizes a special 4-day field trip to Jeju Island so that students can broaden their understanding of Korea.

Dates: June 26 - July 27, 2018


The University of Seoul is pleased to invite 2 RRU students to the SISS 2018 which includes the following (equivalent to around USD 4,850): 

  • tution fee and registration fee waived 
  • free excursions to several places in Korea
  • free cultural activities about Korean traditions
  • on-campus dormitory housing
  • partial payment of a 4 day field trip to Jeju Island (bringing the cost down for the student to $300)

What is not included:

  • Roundtrip airfares
  • Meals
  • 4-day field trip fees only partially covered

Japanese Language and Culture Program

Focusing on Japanese language study, the program’s objective is to improve Japanese proficiency and deepen understanding of both traditional Japanese culture and various aspects of contemporary Japan by taking classes related to Japan, going on fieldtrips and having the opportunity to directly experience the tea ceremony, calligraphy, and so forth. Opportunities to interact with Kanagawa University students have also been incorporated into the program.

Program Schedule: Friday June 30 – Friday August 4, 2017 (five weeks)

Application Deadline: March 30, 2018

Application fee: JPY 30,000

Participation Fee: JPY 130,000 

2 RRU students are invited to participate at a 50% discounted fee, reducing the participation fee to JPY 65,000.

Four-Week Intensive Japanese Language Program 2018

June 25 - July 26, 2018
Since the International Division at Seinan Gakuin University was established in 1973, we have offered one-semester or one-year study abroad programs concentrating on Japanese language and culture. The completion of the new international student residence, International House (I-House), in 2004 has allowed us to offer Japanese language education experiences for more international students. The four-week Summer Intensive Japanese Program accepts up to 40 students each year at four different levels I-IV of classes. Lecturers are all highly experienced in Japanese language education, both in our year-long exchange programs and at other universities both here and abroad. The incoming students are from both partner and non-partner institutions from around the world, making for a richly international learning environment in which to experience many other cultures and to learn more about the world, in and through the Japanese language.

The Berlin School of Economics and Law offers an inspiring environment for expanding your academic horizon and for your personal enrichment. Our courses are taught by experienced faculty and cover topics in business, economics, entrepreneurship and business law with a focus on the European Union and in the field of German language & culture.

Supply Chain Management Summer School

Munich University of Applied Sciences offers the summer program "Operational Excellence - Managing Global Supply Chains the German Way": a two-week summer school with the modules "Doing Business in Germany", "Future Supply Chain Management" and "Operational Excellence - The German Way".

Program dates: July 2 -13, 2018


Application Deadline: March 20, 2018

Global Entrepreneurship Summer School 2018

During the Summer School students will work in international and interdisciplinary teams to develop business ideas addressing challenges concerning one topic with a global impact.


The MCI Summer Program offers a number of international business courses and is best suited for undergraduate business students.

The Summer Program is offered twice:

  • May 22 until June 14, 2018 or
  • May 28 until June 21.

Transfer credit may be available. Please meet with your program head before applying to the program.

Tuition: EUR 1,590*
incl. 4 courses of 3 ECTS credits each
The summer program fee does not include airfare, visa, housing or any personal expenses such as meals.

"Hidden Business Champions" Summer School in two countries: Belgium and Austria

The Hidden Business Champions Summer School is a two-week European adventure for students interested in innovative business and sales models, who want to witness how innovative
European business can be, for students who want to meet people from all over the world and work together on interesting cases, and who want to discover two beautiful cities in Europe!
This Summer School is a collaboration between Artevelde University College Ghent (Belgium) and University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria (Austria).

Program Dates: June 30th - July 14th, 2018

Application period: Dec 15, 2017 - Feb 28, 2018

Program fee: Euro 1450 (Special offer for RRU students: no tuition fee charged! normal price is Euro 2200)

Prices include tuition and lecturing materials, company visits, bus transfers and airport transportation service, accomodation, half board, cultural and social events, the closing ceremony.

Not included: Flights and visa costs are not included in the price
