Short-term Abroad Programs

Spend the short-term abroad at one of our international partner institutions and take part in one of their exciting programs. Experience another culture through academic courses, cultural excursions and activities.

These short-term, international programs are an excellent way to enrich your academic live and get to know a different culture. Here is how it works:

Research, Preparation & Application

  • Please review each short-term abroad opportunity (scroll down for list) for program details, fees, application requirements and deadlines and decide on what exciting opportunity you would like be part of. Some of our partner institutions offer tuition deductions or even free tuition to some of our students. Only in case you would like to be nominated for one of the complimentary/ reduced tuition spots, please prepare a letter of motivation and upload it in the Expression of Interest form.
  • Fill out the Short-term Abroad - Expression of Interest Form. RRU's Education Abroad Advisor will connect with you once you have submitted your information.
  • Depending on the summer abroad program, you may be eligible to receive transfer credits if pre-approved by your program head. Gather the program information (including course descriptions) and make an appointment with your program head for review and pre-approval. Fill out the completion plan and send it to education abroad coordinator. 
  • Request a letter of permission to study at another University while being registered at RRU through your MyAdmin Account. The letter needs to be approved and processed by your program area.
  • Prepare your application documents as required and submit them to the partner institution. Contact us if you need assistance with the application process.

Congratulations on your acceptance! Just a few more things before you take off on your summer abroad adventure:

Visa requirements

Review the visa requirements of your destination country by checking the country’s embassy website. Depending on your country of citizenship, you may have to travel to Vancouver or another city to obtain a visa. Make sure your passport is up to date!

Travel and Health Insurance

Make sure you have adequate travel and health insurance for your time abroad!

Welcome back! You are now officially a Study Abroad alumni. Make the most of your experience and become an RRU Go Global Ambassador to inspire other students and make an impact in their lives. If your program head pre-approved any transfer credits for the program you attended, make sure you receive an official transcript from the partner institution and submit the sealed envelope to the Registrar’s Office to receive the transfer credit as discussed.

Korean Language & Culture Summer Program

Short-term Summer Program at Kookmin University will be conducted for 3 weeks providing intensive Korean Language and Cultural Education to improve students’ Korean Language competency and understanding of Korean Culture.
A variety of cultural excursions and programs will be provided to experience diverse Korean culture.

KHU's Global Collaborative Summer Program

Under the theme “Humanity, Civilization, and Global Governance,” the Global Collaborative Summer Program seeks to promote a better understanding of the East Asian region and the world, in tandem with the current quests for “world peace” and “global common good.” It also aims to provide a new paradigm of higher education for the emerging global agenda by consciously integrating education, research and global service. Through high-quality research and education on Humanity, Civilization, and Global Governance, we hope this program will present an opportunity for students around the world to share ideas and views with each other and to reflect on their emerging roles in the global community.

Dates: June 26 - July 23, 2020

Discount Tuition Fee: 1,100,000 KRW (about $1,300CAN)

Sookmyung International Summer School

Sookmyung Summer Program allows students to take part in exciting Korean college life with motivated and brilliant women. There are also opportunities to experience traditional cultures within and off campus. World-renowned Korean embroider, Jung Young Yang, has granted her collection to Sookmyung where her works are opened to the public.

Seoul International Summer School (SISS)

SISS is an international exchange program inviting students from universities worldwide. The program provides a great opportunity to experience Asia in Korea. SISS offers courses ranging from Korean Language and Korean Studies to International Studies, Business & Economics, and Urban Studies. The program also includes visits and excursions to Korea’s famous attractions. In addition, SISS organizes a special 4-day field trip to Jeju Island so that students can broaden their understanding of Korea.

Japanese Language and Culture Program

Focusing on Japanese language study, the program’s objective is to improve Japanese proficiency and deepen understanding of both traditional Japanese culture and various aspects of contemporary Japan by taking classes related to Japan, going on field trips and having the opportunity to directly experience the tea ceremony, calligraphy, and so forth. Opportunities to interact with Kanagawa University students have also been incorporated into the program.

Summer Intensive Japanese Language and Culture Program

Since the International Division at Seinan Gakuin University was established in 1973, we have offered one-semester or one-year study abroad programs concentrating on Japanese language and culture. The completion of the new international student residence, International House (I-House), in 2004 has allowed us to offer Japanese language education experiences for more international students. The four-week Summer Intensive Japanese Program accepts up to 40 students each year at four different levels I-IV of classes. Lecturers are all highly experienced in Japanese language education, both in our year-long exchange programs and at other universities both here and abroad. The incoming students are from both partner and non-partner institutions from around the world, making for a richly international learning environment in which to experience many other cultures and to learn more about the world, in and through the Japanese language.

The Berlin School of Economics and Law offers an inspiring environment for expanding your academic horizon and for your personal enrichment. Our courses are taught by experienced faculty and cover topics in business, economics, entrepreneurship and business law with a focus on the European Union and in the field of German language & culture.

Supply Chain Management Summer School

Munich University of Applied Sciences offers the summer program "Operational Excellence - Managing Global Supply Chains the German Way": a two-week summer school with the modules "Doing Business in Germany", "Future Supply Chain Management" and "Operational Excellence - The German Way".

Global Entrepreneurship Summer School

During the Summer School students will work in international and interdisciplinary teams to develop business ideas addressing challenges concerning one topic with a global impact.

Barcelona International Summer School (BISS)

The Universitat Pompeu Fabra offers the Barcelona International Summer School (BISS) as a flagship program to advance the curriculum of both domestic and international undergraduate students during the summer term in Barcelona.

Courses are credit-bearing (ECTS) and can be taken in English, Spanish or Catalan, in an international classroom environment. They are structured in modules of different duration and intensity, which can be flexibly combined in periods ranging from one to four weeks.

The BISS offers advanced training by building on UPF academic strengths, engaging leading faculty members to feature and share their current research with participating students.

Subjects have been conceived as an invitation to think and learn beyond and across disciplines while approaching social and scientific challenges from content, methodological and practical perspectives. Independent research projects along these lines can be supervised by UPF scholars in the BISS summer term.

Hidden Business Champions Summer School

The Hidden Business Champions Summer School is a two-week European adventure for students interested in innovative business and sales models, who want to witness how innovative
European business can be, for students who want to meet people from all over the world and work together on interesting cases, and who want to discover two beautiful cities in Europe!
This Summer School is a collaboration between Artevelde University College Ghent (Belgium) and University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria (Austria).

ITESO International Summer Program

Summer classes at ITESO are open to international students.  Visiting students take classes with international and ITESO professors alongside ITESO students.

International professors in 2019 will come from Argentina, Bolivia, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Finland, Germany, Honduras, Hungary, the Netherlands, Spain, the United Kingdom, and the United States.



  • One month program, from late May – late June 
  • Classes from Monday to Thursday
  • Taught jointly by international and ITESO professors
  • Taught in English and/or Spanish
  • Credit-bearing
  • Assistance with housing and on-site orientation
  • Organized cultural excursions (extra fee may apply)

Students may also take one Spanish language course (optional).
